Shengnan (Pinker) Yao, a dedicated PhD candidate and research assistant at the News & Media Research Centre, University of Canberra, is distinguished by her expertise in the social and cultural impacts of trust in news. With a background as a Broadcast Journalist at China Beijing TV, Shengnan brings a unique blend of global journalism experience and academic rigour to her role. As the scholarship recipient for the ARC project, "Rise of Mistrust," Shengnan actively contributes to national and international academic reports, showcasing her commitment to staying at the forefront of media research. Her doctoral thesis uses a mixed-method approach and focuses on trust in news media among Australian multicultural communities.

Digital News Report: Australia
Publication
- Using SPSS to conduct statistical data analysis based on the requested theme and topic associated with this report’s interest.
- Exploring the Australian and global data to identify the research gap and potential research topic in the news media field.
- Searching literature and analysing the data to write articles based on the research gap found in the raw data.
- Create and maintain the guidebook for the methodology change for each year’s report.

- Conducting a systematic literature review with 4 databases containing more than 1.000 literature.
- Research project management including data management, meeting schedule, and administration.
- Participating in the experiment design and developing interview guidelines.
- Participating in the longitudinal research design with the Digital News Report data.

Publication
- Collected more than 200 raw data from the media outlets in China and Taiwan through online resources including government documentation, statistics reports, and media releases.
- Conducted overall reports based on the data analysis and generated information.
- Review all the sources and data used in the report to ensure authenticity and accuracy, as well as translating the Chinese sources to the English version.
- Generated two thorough reports about the media environment in China and Taiwan.
